Our Mission
St Stephen's strives to provide a variety of opportunities for parishioners to experience church in a small group setting. As our mission statement ("To walk with Christ and share the journey") suggests, sharing and supporting one another in our individual and collective faith journeys is a core value for our congregation. We currently offer several opportunities including the following:
- Prayer Circle - Sharyn Philcox
- Men's Fellowship - Tim Moss
- Women of Faith - Eleanor Legg
- Education For Ministry (EFM) - Fr Bill Martin
In addition to these programs, we offer a variety of adult and youth education programs and ministries that meet on a regular basis. These programs offer further opportunities for study, worship, prayer, sharing, fellowship and growth.
St Stephen's is currently forming a team of parishioners who will be reviewing alternatives to further grow our Small Group Ministry (SGM) program. The SGM formation team will be studying several programs that have been successful in other churches and developing a format that will meet the unique needs of our congregation.
Vision Statement
The following is the vision statement that has been authored by the team:
"At St Stephen's our vision of Small Group Ministry (SGM) embodies our congregation's mission statement, "To walk with Christ and share the journey". SGM offers a unique sharing experience that is Christ-centered and dissimilar to anything that we experience in our secular lives. Our small groups support us individually and collectively as we endeavor to experience life in a way that has been transformed through a living and growing faith.
We believe that members of our parish seek more than Sunday morning worship and committee meetings. Parishioners desire the intimacy and spiritual growth that flourishes in a small group setting. The groups promote a social, supportive and inspiring environment that attempts to meet the spiritual and pastoral needs of its members. They are not designed to be a course in religion or therapy but an embodiment of our faith.
Our groups are designed to be open and we favor diversity within each group. Our program is uniquely designed and reflects the needs and desires of our parish. It is structured yet flexible and offers a rich experience for both new and long-term members of our congregation."
Anyone interested in participating on the SGM formation team or simply offering a suggestion is welcome to do so.
