Meeting of 21st August, 2006

Present

Fr Bill, Diane Barrette, Gale McKenzie, Sharyn Philcox, Amy Reilly, Don Shapleigh, Bob Williams, MJ Ebens.

Previous Minutes

The meeting opened at 7:00pm with a prayer. The minutes of the previous vestry meeting were presented and accepted.

Treasurer's Report

The report was presented by Bob Williams and was accepted by the vestry.

June reported a -$3,001 operating deficit compared to the $1,416 budgeted deficit. Contributing to the higher deficit: Pledge arrearage of $1,498 (9.5%). The YTD operating deficit was $8,554 plus $2,422 in capital expenses for a $10,976 total deficit. Designated Income: $150 gift for Interfaith Hospitality expenses.

July reported a $2,187 surplus compared to a $694 budgeted surplus. Contributing factors: July was a 5-week month with pledge arrearage down to 2.4%, quarterly investment income and building rental income higher than budgeted, and expenses less than expected.

The YTD operating deficit decreased to -$6,368. Total YTD income and expenses are close to budget. In July we received a total of $16,159 as an insurance settlement for our damaged boiler. Because the insurance settlement was received before the $8,579 balance for the new boiler is due, the Capital Repairs expense account shows a $6,578 credit balance. The insurance will cover all but a $1,000 of the cost. Designated Income: Approximately $3,000 has been collected in memory of James Boyer.

Other Business

Finance Committee reviewed the M Wile memorial fund to try to understand how the fund could currently be used. They are consulting with the diocese on various options. A severance agreement was made with Beverly Scheibert. A letter to that effect was written by the Chancellor that includes the agreement and a release covering the agreed upon amount. Bob Williams made a motion, seconded by Don Shapleigh to accept the agreement. The motion passed unanimously.

The Organist Search Committee will meet on August 31. The vestry will need to review the contract and set the salary. The vestry will also have a chance to meet the candidate then. Fr. Bill passed out the results of the Congregational Survey done a few months ago. He urged the vestry to read it over and respond with any suggestions based on reading. Fr. Bill is hopeful that Peggy Yankee will fill in as Treasurer thru the Annual Meeting. The Jim Boyer memorial funds are over $3,000. Beverly has encouraged the church to "spend it where there is a need" The following suggestions were offered for consideration:
