Ora et labora, pray and work, was the theme of the men’s retreat on May 12th at the Community Harvest Project in Grafton. Led by Fr. Dave Woessner, we lived the monastic life for a day. We prayed at lauds, tierce, and sext. Most of the day was spent in companionable silent reflection. We shared each other’s silent space as we cooked and ate our lunch. We experienced new things: previously unheard sounds, an awareness of our surroundings as we walked around the farm and worked to transplant pepper seedlings, and a new closeness to God. We closed with a Eucharist and left in silent reflection. This was a wonderfully moving spiritual experience for all of us.
