On the afternoon of Saturday, February 3, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church hosted its annual meal packaging event.  St. Stephen’s is one of ten local churches and service organizations that contributes funding and labor toward this venture.  This year, seven of our parishioners; Simon Fricker, Liz Koshy, Gale McKenzie, Peter and Yvette Kite, and Greg and Diana Michel represented us among about 150 people contributing their efforts over the course of the afternoon.  $600 was contributed from the St. Stephen’s Mission & Outreach budget to help defray the cost of the meals and set a foundation for additional on-site collections. Together we packaged 40,674 meals!  There were four assembly lines making macaroni and cheese meals, and one making rice and beans working through the afternoon. That required a total of $10,168.50 given towards the project.

The food, once packaged was distributed to two sites in Worcester County and one in Rhode Island.  They were:

Webster-Dudley Food Share in Webster, MA

Feeding ministries of Concordia Lutheran Church, Worcester, MA

Be the Change Food Pantry in West Warwick, RI (a new pantry that contacted Good Shepherd asking if we could help them get started, so we agreed even though it is outside of Worcester County)

The ten organizations that donated and participated were:

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Westborough

Congregational Church, Westborough

Unitarian Universalist Association of Westborough

St. Luke’s Roman Catholic Church, Westborough

First United Methodist Church, Westborough

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Westborough

Christ the King Lutheran Church, Holliston

Pilgrim Congregational Church, Southborough

Westborough Rotary Club

Westborough Freemasons group

Thanks to all who contributed so generously to this effort on behalf of St. Stephen’s and the hungry people in the area.
