This year our church is using the Workshop Rotation Model for Sunday School. In this format, we choose a theme for each month, usually based on one of the major biblical stories. Then for each Sunday of that month the classes learn the focus story in a different way. There are lots of possibilities for these workshops:
- Puppet show
- Animated video
- Song and dance
- Skits and plays
- Science experiments
This multidisciplinary approach allows children to learn these important stories at a deeper level, and each week the lesson is fresh and new. To help you with Christian education of your child(ren) at home, we provide a monthly handout that gives you the biblical text of the focus story for review during the week, ideas for discussion and activities with your child(ren), and a schedule of the month’s workshops.
At St. Stephen’s we have two Sunday School classes, grouped by age: (1) Pre-K through 1st Grade and (2) 2nd through 5th grade. The classes take place during the first part of the 10:00am service, during the readings and sermon. Children are dropped off by parents at their classrooms just before church starts, and then the children and teachers rejoin the congregation during the announcements time.
Our classes and teaching teams are coordinated by Leslie Leedberg and Ann Bartee.
